Innovation project with Bergen municipality as a customer.
www.kulturjakten.no
Kulturjakten(culture hunt)is one of our internal projects that the team itself has taken the initiative to create. The service has been developed by us in Link Development with innovation support from Bergen Municipality. The project is also the only application ever supported by the Cultural Heritage Foundation.
Kulturjakten is a free service that allows you to explore cultural monuments in your local area. The service has a high degree of gamification that allows you to accumulate points that you can use to compete against others - become the cultural expert in your municipality! The service is adapted to both residents and tourists.
We consider this project to be an important contribution to creating increased activity in Bergen city centre and promoting knowledge about culture, pride and patriotism. Furthermore, we consider the solution to have a market potential nationally and that it can contribute to a forward-looking business development and the creation of new jobs in the region.
Brand
For us, it was important that Kulturjakten should be experienced as a fun and credible source of cultural information. The team had an idea about, among other things, what colors we associate with the cultural industry, and the choice fell on orange and purple as complementary colors to each other. The color orange represents energy and optimism — elements that we believe fit the Culture Hunt superbly as the service should activate the population. The color purple symbolizes dignity and wisdom, a perfect color to represent the cultural heritage of the cities. The logo and font were supposed to be easy to understand and were inspired by the formality of local councils. The app icon is a modified K that symbolizes a pin and a direction.
Design
In the design process, we did market research with different user groups to ensure that the service flow was optimally tailored to each user group. Here, too, great emphasis was placed on Universal Design, so that the service can be used by people with, among other things, visual impairment. The design bears a great touch of Gamification, while at the same time the core is reserved for the information dissemination created in the service.
Development and technology
The application is developed in Flutter, which makes it available for both iOS and Android. The application integrates with Google Maps for map functionality. The administration portal is created with Vue.js and the landing page is set up in Webflow. At the request of the pilot customer to store data in the EU, a Parse server was set up on Scalingo. The claim has its origin in, among other things, the Schrems II judgment. The data is stored in a Postgres database in France, in addition to the images stored on DigitalOcean.
App
The application Kulturjakten a tool from the municipality to the end user. The app leads the user on a culture hunt with various cultural treasures and cultural walks where the user can earn points and increase their knowledge. The points are used to compete against friends and the coins can be exchanged for goodies such as free entrance to the cinema and museum. To accumulate points, the user must be in geographic proximity to a cultural treasure or walk to unlock it, read the cultural memorial information, and then correctly answer a question. Its purpose is to both activate and inform users about the cultural heritage of cities.
Website
We prepared a website for the project — www.kulturjakten.no — to show information about the service to interested parties. The website is heavily inspired by the design of the app, with the aim of simplifying the concept.
Admin Portal
An associated administration portal to the application was also developed. This is the main component of the project and gives the municipality full access to share information, view statistics on activity and edit content. The administration portal is the municipality's tool for cultural dissemination in the service, and has been designed minimally and stylishly.
